Rackable Systems targets virtualisation market - Data and Server Racks

Rackable Systems targets virtualisation market - Data and Server RacksNetwork equipment manufacturer Rackable Systems has unveiled a new hardware solution to virtualisation.

The firm will target the cloud computing and server sector with its new MicroSlice architecture, which does away with the need for virtualisation software.

According to Rackable Systems' Saeed Atashie, the new architecture allows for the company's smallest server footprint to date.

Companies will be able to house up to 264 servers in server cabinets & server racks.

"The approach we have taken [to virtualisation] is we believe for a certain class of application, there is a hardware-centric approach to virtualisation that gives some pretty compelling advantages," Atashie said.

He added that the architecture is the next evolutionary step in virtualisation and can provide users with improved performance per watt.

Meanwhile, Rackable Systems has launched an eco-partner programme which provides increased access to ecological data centre solutions.

The company claims the programme addresses issues such as server density and thermal efficiency.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19032820-ADNFCR
