Inverness set for £20m data centre - Intelligent Server Cabinet/Rack Solutions

Inverness set for £20m data centre - Intelligent Server Cabinet/Rack Solutions Inverness could become the home of a £20 million data centre if planning permission is given for the project.

Alchemy Plus, the company behind the project, is expected to submit its proposals by the end of next month.

It is believed that the new storage centre could create 400 jobs.

The project has been dubbed an eco-friendly computer centre which will create 40 on-site jobs and other businesses are expected to follow suit and cluster around the business.

It is a cloud computing centre and revenues will be generated by charging companies for the services they use.

Alchemy Plus chief executive Steve Chisholm said that the project would remain on target despite the impact of the recession and the ongoing global economic downturn.

Mr Chisholm told the Aberdeen Press and Journal: "The industry has been less affected by the recession because it is still in its infancy and growing. For the time being, it seems to be well favoured."

Alchemy Plus was recently featured on BBC Radio 4's environmental series Costing the Earth.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19177117-ADNFCR
