2010 to see data centres turn to cloud computing - Server Room Monitoring

2010 to see data centres turn to cloud computing - Server Room Monitoring Data centre managers with server racks will need to look at more energy-efficient ways to run their systems as cloud computing grows in popularity.

According to Continuity Central, the hype around cloud computing will see more firms attempt to jump onto the bandwagon, causing pressure on data centres to handle the demand.

However, green initiatives will need to be developed in order to counteract the increased energy consumed by more servers, as well as to power the cooling systems to keep them operating.

"In the coming year we'll see the tentacles of virtualisation continue to pervade nearly every aspect of the data centre as technological development focuses on delivering the necessary intelligence and flexibility to enhance virtual data centre efficiency and agility," the site claimed.

Recent research by Frost & Sullivan found that server room operators attempting to cut running costs during the recession are looking into technologies which may help them improve their energy efficiency.
