Worcestershire healthcare professionals get single networkHealthcare professionals in Worcestershire will soon be benefiting from a new single network infrastructure, according to reports.

The county's NHS hospitals, made up of 10,000 health professionals, will be linked through one single network which will allow them to share information easier and more quickly.

John Thornburym, director of ICT at Worcestershire Health ICT Services, told website KableNet: "We cover a large area, serving a widely dispersed population of more than 500,000.

"Up until now our staff had to spend a considerable amount of time travelling between facilities in order to consult patients and collaborate with colleagues."

He added that the new communications platform would help improve the deliver of patient healthcare.

The five-year contract to provide the network has been awarded to BT, who will be collaborating with Microsoft and Nortel.
