With the new 1.4 specification of high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cables set to be introduced onto the market soon, one firm has used a precious material to get the best quality.
Wireworld has developed a HDMI cable made with platinum, which it believes gives the greatest performance of any metal for networking - a feature vital for the increased demands of the 1.4 standard.
New HDMI options will include 3D video at a width of over four kilopixels - four times today's 1080i/p standard - as well as an Ethernet connection.
David Salz, president of Wireworld, said: "Now that Blu-Ray players are the primary source for both movies and music in home theatre systems, the HDMI cable connecting the player to the system has become the most important audio cable in the entire system."
The numbering system for new versions of electronic cables with HDMI technology is to be discarded, the licensing body responsible for the products recently revealed.
