Virtualisation at forefront of IT discussions - Networking Industry News

Virtualisation at forefront of IT discussions - Networking Industry News The economic downturn has pushed virtualisation to the forefront of IT issues, it has been claimed.

According to itp.net's Julian Pletts, the potential upsides to adopting virtualisation are clear, and the process allows companies to save on space.

However, Mohammed Sabunchi, IT infrastructure director at DIFC told itp.net: "There is definitely a wide range of opinions and schools of thought [on virtualisation]."

According to the news provider, structured cabling and network equipment manufacturers are optimistic about the future of virtualisation but remain candid about how far the sector has to go before it is widely adopted by non-IT businesses.

Ahmer Hasan, server and tools business group lead at Microsoft Gulf, added: "Adoption is coming, it is happening, but it is slow. Some [enterprises] have already deployed and are looking to increase the footprint of their solution and others are evaluating it."

The recent Global Data Centre Survey, carried out on behalf of CommScope, found that many firms are upgrading their copper-based structured cabling so that they are ready to adopt virtualisation and co location in the future.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19315282-ADNFCR
