Universal broadband expectations 'must be set' - Networking Industry News

Universal broadband expectations 'must be set' - Networking Industry NewsExpectations need to be defined for the new broadband network planned for the UK, according to one expert.

David Campbell, managing director of the next generation access programme for Openreach, claims the UK needs to be told "what to expect" from the two megabits per second broadband network planned for completion in 2012.

Speaking at the Westminster eForum keynote seminar: Broadband for All?, Mr Campbell said Brits need to be made aware "what two megabits means" and expectations must be set.

"If everyone gets two megabits at three o'clock in the morning when no one is using the network or the mobile masts or is it two megabits in the busy hour? It makes a big difference to the service customers receive at the end of the day," stated the expert.

ntl:Telewest Business was recently chosen to provide a new £90 million fibre-optic network for public services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, including the creation of a new Metropolitan Ethernet Virtual Private Network.
