ULCC moves into new data centre - Networking Industry News

ULCC moves into new data centre - Networking Industry NewsUniversity of London Computer Centre (ULCC) has completed its move into a new £3 million data centre, it has been announced.

The organisation has upgraded its infrastructure, with Brocade switches at its heart with support for 10Gbps.

Although currently operating at speeds of up to 1Gbps, the support for higher speeds is seen as a way of ensuring the centre's longevity.

Colin Love, ULCC's data centre manager, said: "We took the move as an opportunity to upgrade our core switch platform to the latest 10 Gbps-based technology especially as our existing equipment was effectively end-of-life."

Servers have also been upgraded and the centre now has 120 physical machines as well as 30 VMware machines designed for virtualisation.

The centre currently supports 1,200 staff and 3,000 students in universities around London and provides connectivity to JANET, an education and research network across the UK.

ULCC was established in 1968 and counts the British Library, King's College London and the Arts Council of England among its customers.
