A new release from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has outlined the success of broadband take-up for people with a phone line in the UK.
In a table illustrating the number of people who have a super-fast broadband connection worldwide, the UK lags behind 12 other countries - including the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway.
Some 28.9 per cent of Brits have a super-fast connection coming down their phone line, while the top three aforementioned nations have 38.1 per cent, 37 per cent and 34.5 per cent respectively.
However, the OECD report also found that, despite its diminutive size, the UK came fifth out of 30 in terms of total broadband users at 17.7 million - almost one-third of the population.
Chancellor Alistair Darling recently outlined the details of a broadband tax in his pre-Budget report, which will have an effect on every person in the country leasing a phone line.
