Telefonica, the Spanish telecommunications giant, has wrapped up its acquisition of the online communications specialist Jajah, it has been confirmed.
Over recent months, speculation has been rife over the possible future of the US-based internet phone service, with the likes of Cisco and Microsoft having both been linked with a possible takeover.
However, it is Telefonica that has won the race to purchase Jajah, with its O2 arm set to pay $207 million for the company in an all-cash deal.
Announcing the news, Matthew Key, chief executive of Telefonica Europe, said: "The acquisition of Jajah broadens the scope of our communications offering and opens up new capabilities in the voice communication space."
Since being founded in 2005, Jajah has built up a global customer base of around 25 million users.
Just recently, the firm's key rival Skype launched a new marketing campaign aimed at highlighting the potential of live-streaming telephony.
