Slow broadband for many people in the US - Networking Industry News

Slow broadband for many people in the US - Networking Industry NewsAlthough many people in the US may have kitted out their homes with the right network supplies, they still do not have access to the fastest broadband speeds, new figures suggest.

A survey of more than 100,000 people revealed that 40 per cent do not have high-speed access to the internet, while three in ten can not go online at all.

The data has been released by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), an arm of the Commerce Department.

Further findings show that 26 per cent of respondents opted out of having broadband because of the cost, 28 per cent felt they did not need it and 3.6 per cent were unable to access it because of the location of their homes.

According to the Associated Press, Larry Strickling, head of the NTIA, said: "We're at a point where high-speed access to the internet is critical to the ability of people to be successful in today's economy and society at large."

Among the items that an individual will require to set up home networking are an Ethernet cable and a router.
