Scottish broadband to be boosted by government - Networking Industry NewsBroadband users in Scotland will benefit from £200 million of government investment in the country's next generation fibre optic cable infrastructure.

The money will be spent on improving the quality and speed of internet connections across the whole of the country.

As well as supporting the UK's drive to implement a reliable, high-speed fibre optic lead network, the money will be used to reach homes in notorious not-spots that currently have little or no service.

Commenting on the fibre optic cable investment in Scotland, Digital Britain minister Stephen Timms said: "Already the market in Scotland is delivering innovative ways of connecting people to these superfast networks."

"The Fibrecity initiative is already delivering 100Mbps broadband to residents in Dundee via fibre optic networks beneath the city," he added.

In September of this year, i3 Group unveiled its latest 100Mbps broadband network in Bournemouth.

The project will connect homes using fibre-to-the-home technology, with fibre optic leads deployed in the city's existing sewer network.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19452158-ADNFCR
