A 300 site Scada network for EDF Energy Networks has been completed by GE company Satlynx, according to reports.
The UK network forms part of a bigger improvement programme to control and monitor the distribution of electricity in the south-east of England.
Satlynx has been working with EDF Energy on the project for more than two years and have been trying to validate using satellite technology for the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (Scada) application.
It is used to collect data, as well as control the electricity distribution network.
Previously, it was operated from Satlynx's teleport and network operating centre in Germany.
The new network allows instant coverage across the south-east of England, but allows EDF Energy Network to extend it to other regions.
Mark Fiske, operational telecoms manager for EDF Energy Networks said: "We are committed to the improvement of our infrastructure and the control of our networks is as important as the switching and distribution itself.
"We chose satellite as a natural medium of transport for reliable control and monitoring of our network and we have not been disappointed from our experience of both the technical solution and in working with Satlynx."
