The recession is forcing more businesses to adopt green IT as a means of reducing overheads, it has been claimed.
According to analysts at Datamonitor, the global economic downturn has changed the way many companies do business.
In his Can Green IT Boom in an Economic Downturn report, Datamonitor's Rhonda Ascierto said: "The global economic recession has spurred a paradigm shift in the way organisations evaluate, budget for and deploy green IT."
IT budgets are likely to remain flat in the near future there will be a slight improvement in 2010, she claimed.
She added that one of the key features of data centre architecture in the future will be increased levels of virtualisation, with companies saving space and money by spreading their server racks full of equipment across several sites.
Meanwhile, network equipment specialist Reichle & De-Massari has claimed that 2009 will be the start of a new era of networking which will see the widespread use of fibre-to-the-home technology.
