Powerline networking provides a good alternative to existing businesses that could struggle to upgrade their structured cabling.
According to Melissa Good, writer for examiner.com, many new-build homes and businesses come with Cat5 cables pre-installed and ready to use making network setup a simple task.
However, she claimed that depending on what kind of premises existing firms use, the installation of Cat5 or Cat6 leads can be costly and in some cases impossible.
A good alternative, especially for use in residential buildings, is powerline networking, she stated.
"Dlink, Linksys, and Netgear are three well known home networking equipment providers who have this technology available," Mrs Good claimed.
"Speeds can range from 14Mbps to 200Mbps depending on the device - the higher speeds providing greater bandwidth than most wireless and making it available everywhere in your home," she added.
Netgear recently introduced a range of digital network switches aimed at small and medium-sized businesses.
