Network equipment manufacturer Phoenix Contact has unveiled the world's fastest input/output (I/O) system, it has been reported.
The Axioline technology was presented at the SPS/IPC/Drives symposium, but the top secret device, set for release in 2010, was not entered into any of the event's competitions, according to Control Engineering.
Roland Bent, executive vice-president of Phoenix Contact, told the news provider: "We went back to the fundamental principle behind I/O systems, since, even in the era of Ethernet, users of these systems are usually not concerned with sophisticated high-tech solutions."
He claimed that users simply want to be able to simply and effectively connect their devices together and transfer signals between them.
With this in mind, the firm developed Axioline, which is a rethink of classical serial bus technology, he added.
Jay Neer, strategic product manager at Molex Incorporated, recently claimed that InfiniBand was the dominant I/O technology in supercomputing circles.
