OhioHealth Picks Cisco-based SAN Technology

OhioHealth picks Cisco-based SAN technology Healthcare provider OhioHealth has chosen a new storage area network (SAN) and a new optical transport platform based on Cisco technology.

The SAN will improve data storage and connectivity between the main office hub, the two main data centres, major health centres and hospitals and a surgery centre.

Thanks to the high bandwidth, afforded by the solution, medical images can now be transported and scalability to support growing data needs increased.

Cisco's Data Center 3.0 allows reliable, scalable and secure data centres to be created.

Jim Lowder, vice president of technology for OhioHealth, said: "We evaluated different storage networking vendors to determine who provided the highest functionality and overall interoperability and Cisco was by far the best fit.

"In addition, the Cisco ONS solution performs like a LAN-type connection, running at 10-Gigabits-per-second, and it was very cost effective compared to other solutions we investigated. The end result is our ability to efficiently manage, properly protect and quickly access critical clinical information."
