Struggling US technology company SpinVox has been acquired by fellow American firm Nuance Communications, it has been confirmed.
The imaging solutions provider bought the voice-to-text services business for $102.5 million (£63.4 million), which will allow Nuance to integrate SpinVox's carrier services with its own advanced speech recognition platform.
Through the use of structured cabling, Nuance hopes to expand its voice-to-text business operations by meeting the increased demand from customers across the world.
Nuance Voice-to-Text Services vice president John Pollard said that this particular market has "experienced tremendous growth" over the last 12 months.
"With SpinVox's robust infrastructure, language support and operational experience, we will broaden the reach and capabilities of our platform," he explained.
Following the acquisition, Nuance will concentrate on three key areas: service quality, its global reach and innovation.
Among the languages the Nuance works with are English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese.
Earlier this month, Nuance released its Dragon Search App for the iPhone, allowing people with the handset to do voice-enabled searches.
