New fibre optic cabling solution unveiled - Networking Industry News A new fibre optic cable technology could significantly decrease the footprint of a network installation – improving data centre scalability, it has been claimed.

Corning's new suite of cabling for data storage facilities can reduce the amount of room needed to lay cabling by half, the company states.

Director of marketing Bob Pollack said: "As a result of the new material science that we get from Corning optical fiber, we're able to bend the fibre into positions we never could before because we encountered bending loss."

He added that the significant change to its fibre optic lead solutions mean that businesses can increase their cabling density significantly during installation.

Offering transmission speeds between 10GB and 100GB, the products are also backward compatible and can be used in existing situations.

Fibre optic cabling infrastructure is being touted as the solution to the UK's slow broadband speeds, which the government hopes to raise to a minimum of 2Mbps for every household.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19227946-ADNFCR
