More Welsh firms sign up to fibre broadband

More Welsh firms sign up to fibre broadbandAn increasing number of Welsh firms are signing up to use the country's next generation high-speed fibre optic broadband technology, it has been reported.

Dozens of businesses across North Wales have been connected to the network, which runs between Holyhead and Wrexham.

Richard Forde-Johnston, business development and relationship manager of FibreSpeed, which operates the infrastructure, said that there has been a good initial uptake for the new service.

He cited Excelsior Technologies as a major client, which recently moved its £20 million manufacturing facility to the Deeside Industrial Park.

"Excelsior's new Deeside site, for example, will contribute to their multi-million pound US Bird's Eye contract and is a superb example of FibreSpeed delivering on its objectives and keeping jobs and business investment in Wales," Mr Forde-Johnston added.

According to industry analyst IDC, third parties in the managed hosting business are able to offer better technology, such as fibre optic leads, than firms can generally afford if they keep their data storage equipment in house.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19359241-ADNFCR
