More than a third consider cloud computing

More than a third consider cloud computingSome 36 per cent of small to medium-sized UK businesses are considering using cloud hosting, according to new research.

The main reason for firms choosing cloud computing was to boost server capacity and distribute processor workload without having to upgrade networking equipment and increase the number of server racks.

According to Rackspace Hosting, cloud networking can provide businesses with extra capacity faster than using traditional hosting housed in server cabinets and racks on-site.

Rackspace Hosting's chief strategy officer Lew Moorman said: "Traditional hosting needs more pre-planning and does not have the cost advantages of using pooled resources that are managed automatically by software."

However, Mr Moorman said that cloud hosting was better suited to non-sensitive data, with traditional hosting techniques providing more control over personal information.

Some 15 per cent of firms said they had not adopted cloud computing as a result of concerns about reliability.

Meanwhile, RNA Networks has developed a system that allows companies to virtualise memory capacity allowing resources to be shared across entire data centres.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19025518-ADNFCR
