Wireless communication system provider Moovera Networks has been chosen by Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries to provide in-ship broadband internet connectivity.
The company's Moovbox M Series will provide the ships with access to multi-megabit speeds, as well as real-time GPS-based ship location monitoring.
The latest move forms part of a plan to modernise the service, with three new ships having recently been commissioned.
Some 5.5 million passengers are estimated to use Wightlink each year, making this deal a significant one for Moovera.
Andrew Willson, chief executive of Wightlink, said: "By equipping our ferries with always-on, high-speed broadband technology from Moovera Networks, were able to ensure our captains and crew have instant access to online resources throughout the voyage.
"We're also laying the foundation for public Wi-Fi hotspot services as we continually
seek ways to improve the passenger experience."
