Microsoft and Cisco emphasise friendly relations

Microsoft and Cisco emphasise friendly relationsMicrosoft and Cisco have revealed the extent to which they are cooperating to ensure that their technologies are inter-operable and that consumers are able to choose between the two firms' products without being compromised.

At a press conference held at New York's Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer joined with Cisco counterpart John Chambers to announce the two companies had been collaborating for around ten years, but that interaction had heightened in the last two years and still further in the first half of 2007.

Indeed, Mr Ballmer admitted that he now regularly meets with Mr Chambers, as well as with the CEOs of HP, Dell and Intel.

Significantly, the two firms have agreed to cooperate in the IT architectures, security, management, wireless, unified communications, connected entertainment and SMB arenas.

The move follows significant pressure from consumers worried that they would be forced to pick between Microsoft and Cisco products from the offset, rather than being able to pick and choose as required.

It also comes despite the fact that Microsoft and Cisco are now competing in an increasing number of areas.
