Maritime Communications Partner (MCP) has signed a new deal to install and manage the cellular network onboard a number of ships and cruise liners, according to reports.
The maritime cellular operator, which is owned by Telenor, will operate the networks on ships in Cunard Lines, P&O Cruises Australia and Princess Cruises fleets.
As part of the cellular network, passengers on board the ships will be able to use their own mobile phones, website Computer Business Review reports.
Pal Bjordal, chief executive of MCP, told the site: "This contract represents a definite breakthrough for MCP in the American cruise market.
"We have won this contract despite hard competition, and we are proud to have been chosen to supply one of the most distinguished and demanding cruise operators in the market.
"The agreement with Princess Cruise Lines will be an excellent platform on which to further build our growth strategy."
