Latisys expands its data centre platform - Networking Industry News Latisys has expanded its data centre platform with the inclusion of IBM's iDataPlex server architecture.

iDataPlex is built for internet scale computing and is aimed at decreasing energy consumption in the sector – an increasing important issue, according to Latisys.

The firm hopes the new IBM technology will allow it to expand its hosting services to include gaming and media companies making use of the latest web 2.0 developments.

Carlos Oliviera, vice president of Latisys, said: "We need a hardware platform for the future. As we bring our successful business model to the interactive media and gaming industries, we'll require a flexible, highly reliable and energy-efficient data centre."

The IBM system will allow Latisys to boost its server density, cramming 84 of the devices in a single four-foot by two-foot server rack.

Meanwhile, IBM claims that iDataPlex architecture results in 40 per cent less power consumption while increasing the amount of computing power in a set space by a factor of five.

The Taiwanese government recently selected IBM to create its smart taxation service network infrastructure.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19163048-ADNFCR
