Lanner Electronics unveils new security device - Networking Industry NewsInternational network equipment manufacturer Lanner Electronics has unveiled a new security device.

The company's FW-6485 Network Security Appliance is based on the VIA CN700 chipset and uses the VIA C7 1.5Ghz processor.

It contains two PCI expansion slots and has a built-in low-power mode, which makes it suitable for IT firms who are concerned about their operation's impact on the environment.

Terence Chou, Lanner Electronics' network computing product manager, said the new device has a number of integrated security tools that have a minimal impact on the equipment's performance.

He claimed the FW-6485 is "quite an exciting network appliance, due to the versatility of the dual PCI expansion slots and VIA Padlock Security - an ideal security platform for small businesses".

Mr Chou added that the system is designed to work with both Microsoft Windows and Linux architectures and uses Smart Fan cooling technology to ensure power consumption is kept to a minimum.

Recently, Lanner Electronics introduced a fan-less network security device that has an RJ45 connector for an external monitor.
