Integration of household devices will be big in 2009 as standard definition is outmoded by high definition, it has been claimed.
According to Touchline Video's Barry Cross, home networks will be used to put video, voice and data through one centralised infrastructure.
He claims convergence is the final goal and the networking equipment sector will boom as a result.
Companies selling gateways, bridges, switches, patch panels, storage solutions and firewalls will all experience a massive increase in volumes, the IT expert explains.
Mr Cross notes that an increase in the number of people working from home and growth in the small and medium-sized enterprise sectors would drive the continued expansion of the networking solutions market.
In related news, LG is set to sell its first digtal LCD TV with built-in on-demand video capabilities.
The screen, which will connect to a home network or the internet, uses Netflix to allow users to download high-definition movies and TV shows.
