IBM honoured for 'green computing effort' - Networking Industry News Server manufacturer IBM has been honoured at the 2009 HPCwire Readers' and Editors' Choice Awards for its contribution to green IT.

The company was commended in the Best Application of Green Computing category at the event, which was part of the 2009 International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis conference.

IBM won the readers' choice award for its project at the Argonne National Laboratory, while it scooped the editors' accolade for its work on the IBM QS22 BladeCenter at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics.

Tomas Tabor, Publisher of HPCwire, said: "Being selected as an award recipient means that you are at the top of mind of HPCwire readers, editors and luminaries in the field.

"I'd like to congratulate IBM for being selected by both our readers and our editors for awards in 2009."

Earlier this year, IBM launched a number of System X servers aimed at reducing data centre operating costs for its customers.

The devices attempt to address the specific problems of power consumption, idle processors and under-utilised resources.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19466940-ADNFCR
