Hewlett Packard has revealed its latest Performance-Optimized Datacenter (POD), a scaled-down version of the one already on the market.
Created to provide data centre solutions that can be easily transported and quickly deployed, the new POD is 20 ft long, half the length of the previous model.
The smaller version of thee POD has 10 50U racks, compared to the 22 in the bigger version, while the required rate of chilled water needed for cooling is halved to 120 gallons per minute.
Coming in the form of a shipping container, the POD gives the client the equivalent of 2,000 sq ft of data centre space.
HP, which also makes ProCurve switches, told DatacenterDynamics that the new POD is especially aimed at areas of the world where transporting a 40 ft container has proved difficult.
Another company that provides data centres in a portable form is IBM, which recently partnered APC to provide solutions for a variety of applications.
News provided by Comms Express, number one for HP switches on the net.
