Hosted servers can save SMEs £29k - Networking Industry News Using hosted server technologies can save small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) up to £29,000, it has been claimed.

According to Genesis Communications, SMEs could be making a big mistake when reviewing their IT strategies – one that could cost them a substantial amount of money.

The company claims that installing in-house software such as Microsoft Exchange and BlackBerry Enterprise Server could be far more expensive that buying a hosted version of the product from a third party.

Gemini Communications states that businesses choosing to outsource certain IT functions can save on the cost of hardware, such as server racks and server cabinets, software and maintenance.

Genesis product marketing director Mark Seeman told Mobile News: "A server alone can cost between £3,000 and £6,000 - a huge investment for a company with only ten employees to start with."
