Government's plans to offer a universal broadband service to UK residents has been praised by research firm Point Topic.
The comments follow the publication of the interim Digital Britain report, which claims UK households will benefit from minimum broadband speeds of 2Mbps.
Point Topic said the proposal is welcome as long as government can maintain the quality of the service.
Tim Johnson, the chief analyst at Point Topic said: "We believe that investing to deliver 2Mbps could provide the platform for full next-generation broadband in areas where it would not otherwise happen for many years."
He added that two thirds of the UK population already receive 2Mbps, however millions are still subject to standard dial-up internet.
The government plans incorporate the installation of fibre optic leads and cables across the UK.
Meanwhile, the Advertising Standards Authority has rapped Virgin Media for misleading consumers about the spped of its broadband infrastructure.
