European networking specialist e-shelter has been awarded planning permission for the UK's biggest data centre.
The data centre will be developed on a brown field site at Saunderton in High Wycombe.
According to e-shelter, it has completed the purchase of the 50-acre site with the help of funding partner PFB Data Centre Fund.
The site will host the second largest data centre in Europe with e-shelter's existing facility in Frankfurt taking the top spot.
Phillip Lydford, chief executive of e-shelter UK, said the company has worked closely with Wycombe District Council in the design and planning stage of the new facility.
"It is important that we handle this development sensitively and, as far as possible, blend it into its rural surroundings," he added.
The facility will house hundreds of server cabinets.
e-shelter specialises in developing and running mission critical server systems.
