Fibre optic broadband hindered by taxes - Networking Industry News

Fibre optic broadband hindered by taxes - Networking Industry News High-speed business broadband, which often uses fibre optic leads to transfer data, is under threat from high taxes, it has been claimed.

The high rates of tax in the sector are also preventing the government from meeting its 2Mbps broadband target, according to cross-party parliamentary group Eurim.

Meanwhile, according to Computer Weekly, the adoption of high-speed network equipment in the UK is being held back by political and not technical issues.

In spite of this, there are some signs that the broadband sector in the UK is making progress despite setbacks.

H2O Networks announced last month that it was set to expand its Yorkshire Fibrezone.

Roy Shelton, commercial director at H2O, said: "This Fibrezone sees us extending our fibre footprint in Sheffield, providing low cost unlimited bandwidth, allowing homes and businesses throughout the city to connect."

He claimed that the success of the existing fibre optic network in Sheffield was creating huge demand for the services expansion.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19300807-ADNFCR
