EEDA assesses broadband demand in the east - Networking Industry News The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) is investigating demand for fibre optic lead broadband technology in the east of England.

People in Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Bedfordshire are being encouraged to sign up for the survey and let EEDA know if they are keen to receive next-generation broadband technology which is faster than the 2Mbps standard outlined in the government's universal broadband legislation.

EEDA is hoping to use the research to pursue funding from the European Commission to boost broadband access for homes and businesses in the region.

Jan Pinkerton, head of business ICT and Intelligence at EEDA, said: "We want to encourage as many people, businesses and public and third sector organisations as possible to register their interest in next generation broadband services."

This week a new fibre optic cable broadband network went live in South Yorkshire.

The infrastructure was installed as part of a £90 million joint venture between Thales UK and Digital Region.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19482014-ADNFCR
