There is plenty of scope for companies operating data centres to flout their green credentials following a recent Environmental Protection Agency report, it has been claimed.
According to Electrical Portal, a green and efficiently run data centre not only helps to safeguard the environment, it will save money and also help to future-proof the site.
The website claims that data centres greater than 100,000 square feet with life expectancies of more than 20 years are few and far between.
Gerhard Bosch, managing consultant for Site Enablement Services at IBM, told the news provider: "Most data centres in operation today are the product of tinkering, not engineering."
By fundamentally changing data centre infrastructure such as cabling businesses can start reducing their carbon footprint.
According to the Register, Malaysia is in talks with Google to host the world's biggest data centre.
