A new report has shown that revenue from data centre operations in Europe will more than double in the next five years.
The Data Centre Pricing 2010 to 2015 study, undertaken by Tariff Consultancy, offers forecasts in the sector for 19 European nations. It looks primarily at the cost of standard 19-inch server racks with a 50KVA capacity.
According to the new report, the largest data centre markets are found in the UK, Germany, France and Spain with the UK accounting for ten per cent of total raised floor space dedicated to housing server racks and server cabinets.
Total data centre revenue is expected to climb from 3.2 billion (£2.9 billion) in 2010 to 7.3 billion by 2015 and the report points out that price increases in the sector will be the primary causal factor.
Earlier this year, research conducted by IT analysts IDC showed that global server revenues had fallen by almost a third in the second quarter of 2009.
