Data centre operators are failing to address problems surrounding the assessment of costs in data centres, it has been claimed.
According to Nik Simpson, a senior analyst at the Burton Group, the cost of running a data centre is an issue that all operators have to address at some point.
In the Burton Group's latest report 'Counting the cost of the elephant in the data centre', the organisation notes that most managers have insufficient information on the cost of their IT infrastructure.
Speaking to Tech World, Simpson said: "Part of the problem seems to be that the information seems to be spread out across the organisation."
"An IT manager would have to go to a facilities manager to get the electricity costs, to accounting to get the level of depreciation of equipment and real estate costs - it's going to be hard to get an accurate picture," he added.
Recently, Cisco said its unified computing system was a cost-effective entry point for businesses considering their data centre virtualisation.
