The majority of data centre managers are concerned about the future impact of environmental regulations on data centres and the IT industry.
According to a new study by Campos Research, almost 70 per cent of data centre professionals were worried about the implications of the EU's new Carbon Reduction Commitment and the effect it would have on their operations.
The survey, which was carried out on behalf of the Digital Reality Trust, also showed that the majority of workers in the industry were already consulting on the environmental impact of their operations and the latest green standards introduced in the EU.
Commenting on the uncertainty of the future of green IT, Jim Smith, chief technical officer of the Digital Realty Trust, said: "While the new Carbon Reduction Commitment regulations in the EU address a number of questions about the new rules, new concerns about how companies will achieve compliance have arisen."
At the start of this month, an unbuilt data centre to be housed on an old airfield in Ely was recognised as Europe's most energy efficient data centre.
