The outsourcing of network equipment will only become the norm if co-location services become more secure, it has been claimed.
According to Andris Gailitis, chairman of the board of directors at international data centre firm Deac, companies are ready to rationalise their data centre capabilities and outsource their data storage but they are demanding better security.
He said Deac is addressing the problem of server rack and data storage security with its new Maximum Data Security system.
"It is possible to provide those clients who require topmost security with a separate lockable room for hardware co-location," Mr Gialitis said.
In 2011, the firm is hoping to expand its data centre provision to 1,400 square metres. This would allow the company to house up to 500 server racks or server cabinets in its facilities.
Meanwhile, industry research by analysts IDC recently showed that pressures on IT budgets are forcing many firms to consider data storage outsourcing for the first time.
