Cisco unveils new data centre - Data and Server Racks

Communications giant Cisco may have invested in 48 port patch panels recently as it has just opened a new data centre in the US.

The 2.8MW development is a Tier 2 facility and the company plans to use it for application development and disaster recovery, reports Network World US.

It has capacity to hold 438 server racks and up to 5,000 unified computing system blades and it has an average power usage of 6.5KW per rack.

Both air and water are used to cool the servers and all the network cables and other conduits are housed in overhead rails.

Jim Cribari, IT official at Cisco, said the establishment will serve as a production backup for the firm's other data centres and showcase Cisco's technology.

"It shows customers how to maximise their investment in disaster recovery and application development environments," he asserted.

In July, the firm announced that its stock had gained two per cent despite the fact that its Cisco switches were under increasing pressure from competitors.
