Cisco surpasses Networking Academy milestoneLeading networking firm Cisco is celebrating after enrolment in its Networking Academy in Mexico surpassed 50,000 students in one intake.

The firm launched the new Cisco Networking Academy in the South American country ten years ago and the establishment is now the second-largest country after the US in terms of its networking students.

In the years since its inception, the Mexican programme has seen 155,991 students graduate, of which 33 per cent were female, according to the company.

Paul Mountford, president of emerging markets for Cisco, said the firm was "extremely proud" of hitting the milestone.

He added: "Through a combined effort among government, education and business, new skills and competencies demanded by employers and society as a whole, 21st-century skills, are being made accessible to the Mexican citizens."

Cisco recently unveiled its new Aironet 1140 series access point for next-generation wireless access with full 801.11n performances.
