Cisco Systems has lost further ground in the internet-based phone equipment market, it has been revealed.
Cisco's share of the market has fallen to 24.5 per cent in the second quarter from 25.2 per cent in the first three months of the year, a study by Synergy Research Group suggests.
Meanwhile, market leader Avaya's share rose from 25.3 per cent to 25.4 per cent in the same period.
However, Cisco remains the world's largest manufacturer of networking equipment overall, Bloomberg reports.
The internet-based phone equipment market is now worth $4.9 billion, with total sales of internet phone equipment rising by 26 per cent in the last year alone as firms attempt to induce consumers to ditch conventional phone lines in favour of internet alternatives.
Both Cisco and Avaya have introduced new technology recently in an attempt to make internet phone equipment more attractive to potential customers.
