Cisco has further boosted its presence in the burgeoning global mobile internet market with the multi-billion dollar acquisition of Starent Networks.
The $2.9 billion deal will see Starent, which provides services aimed at enabling mobile telecoms service providers to effectively scale their mobile infrastructures according to their needs, brought into Cisco's recently-launched mobile internet technology group.
As such, this is set to expand the company's presence in the rapidly-evolving global mobile market, which is expected to double in size every year between now and 2013 as consumers snap up smartphones that allow them to get online on the go.
It is anticipated that the major new deal will be completed within the first few months of 2010.
Cisco is currently ranked as the world's number one manufacturer of computer networking equipment, including cables and fibre leads.
