Fujitsu Seimens Computers and Cisco Systems have teamed up to smooth the transition to fully-virtualised data centre services.
The companies will expand their joint venture by offering Cisco Nexus switches and Primergy servers.
Nexus 5000 switching technology supports high-speed 10GB Ethernet and Fibre Chanel over Ethernet.
The new technology dubbed Unified Fabric will see the consolidation of servers and storage, providing users with more flexible data centre architecture as well as speed and reliability.
Helmut Beck, vice-president of storage business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, told Web Wire: "There are huge gains to be made in virtualising end-to-end data centre infrastructures by implementing a Unified Fabric."
Meanwhile, Cisco Systems has released its latest ASR 9000 Aggregation Services Router, which it claims is the next big thing in edge switching.
The network solutions manufacturer claims the new device could address the surge in demand for high capacity content such as online video by providing Zettabyte data capacity.
