International communications firm Cable & Wireless has expanded its suite of Ethernet services to cover 31 sites in Asia, India, Europe and the US.
The new International Ethernet Private Line (EIPL), is aimed at businesses wanting a reliable Ethernet connectivity point for their network equipment with data transfer rates of up to 1Gbps.
Cable & Wireless said the IEPL will connect computers on local area networks (LANs) globally, allowing businesses to reduce their operating costs by reducing the need for multiple interfaces.
"Ethernet has been the backbone of LANs for some time but now customers can take advantage of Ethernet's scalability and cost-effectiveness to connect across wide area networks," Nick Lambert, managing director of Global Markets at Cable & Wireless said.
The company is also looking to expand its virtual private network offering over the coming months.
According to new research by the Dell'Oro Group, Ethernet switch sales are suffering during the global economic downturn.
