BT wins major cabling contracts - Networking Industry News Communications firm BT has won several major cabling contracts worth £40.2 million.

The structured cabling installations will cover both council offices and schools in Norfolk and will provide the buildings with combined voice and data networking facilities.

BT will also be providing a managed internet service to more than 450 schools in the region.

As part of the multi-million pound project, BT Global Services will supply unified communications to more than 1,000 sites which house more than 20,000 workers.

"Norfolk County Council is delivering more and more services to citizens over the internet and via other multimedia channels," said Tony Williams, Norfolk County Council cabinet member for corporate and commercial services.

He added: "By upgrading our voice, data and contact centre technologies, BT is helping us strengthen our ability to provide services via the web."

Last month, BT announced it would conduct a range of tests on new fibre optic leads installed in London and Wales.

The firm said more than 30,000 homes will be connected to its fibre optic cable internet service.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19305042-ADNFCR
