BT to test FTTH on brownfield sites - Networking Industry News

BT to test FTTH on brownfield sites - Networking Industry News BT is set to test its latest FTTH networking equipment on a number of brownfield sites across the UK.

The fibre optic cables will be used for the high-speed transmission of data to residential developments that already have a broadband infrastructure in place using standard copper cabling.

The technology uses street cabinets to distribute the incoming data to individual homes and can provide download speeds of up to 40Mbps.

Highams Park in London could be one of the first brownfield sites to benefit from the fast internet access offered by fibre optic leads.

The speed of fibre optic cables is a marked increase on the 2Mbps that the government has pledged to offer every UK household.

However some internet service providers are already talking about speeds of up to 150Mbps in the next few years.

Meanwhile, BT recently won a major £40.2 million cabling contract for the installation of unified communications equipment at a number of sites across Norfolk – including in schools and council offices.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19308676-ADNFCR
