Broadband subscribers almost reach half a billion - Networking Industry News

Broadband subscribers almost reach half a billion - Networking Industry News The number of people around the world who have a broadband subscription with an internet service provider has nearly reached half a billion.

According to Broadband Forum's latest global broadband and internet TV statistics, which cover the second quarter of 2009, the number of subscribers increased by 12.9 million when compared with the previous quarter.

However the growth experienced between April and June was less than the growth experienced between January and March, which saw the number of broadband subscribers increase by 16.6 million.

China topped the list of global broadband uptake with 93,549,000 subscribers.

It was followed by the US in second place and Japan in third.

Britain came in sixth with a total of 17,838,200 subscribers.

Recently, the UK was accused of lagging behind in the fibre optic lead broadband stakes.

However, Chris Marling, editor of Broadband Genie, claimed that the shortfall should not be a cause for concern as the advance in technology outweighs its potential uses at the moment.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19363321-ADNFCR
