The majority of British consumers believe that broadband speeds in the country need to be increased potentially through infrastructure improvements such as the widespread adoption of fibre optic cables.
According to new research conducted by ISPreview.co.uk, 60 per cent of Brits think their internet service provider should make increasing their data transfer rates a priority.
The company surveyed 527 people and found that speed was more important to customers than price with just 16 per cent saying that cost should be ISP's priority.
Meanwhile, 70 per cent of respondents claimed that broadband was essential in their everyday lives, and less than one per cent of those questioned deemed the service unimportant.
Recently, BT announced that it was bringing forward the launch date for its new fibre optic lead broadband in the south-west of Glasgow.
The network will connect more than 15,000 homes with 30 miles of new fibre optic cables.
