Aviva signs pay-as-you-go IT deal - Networking Industry NewsInternational insurer Aviva has signed a £700 million IT outsourcing deal with HP-owned network equipment subsidiary EDS.

The company, which is the world's fifth largest insurer, aims to reduce its IT spending by 20 per cent in a year as a result of the deal.

EDS will be charged with updating Aviva's data centres in Norwich and 300 Aviva employees will be transferred to EDS.

Igal Mayer, UK general insurance chief executive officer at Aviva said: "Partnering with EDS for data centre services, in our view, supports Aviva’s goals to improve flexibility, increase operational efficiency and lower costs."

He added that the company was chosen after a thorough evaluation and EDS's collaborative approach was deemed to be unrivalled in terms of reliability, security and value.

Both HP and Cisco will provide network equipment to EDS during the overhaul of Aviva's data centres.

Meanwhile, Cisco is rumoured to be entering the multi-billion pound server market, reports CNN.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19057442-ADNFCR
